Manipolazione di Cultura / Manipolation der Kultur
Artist’s book with photographs only. These pictures from the 1930s, portraying moments of the Italian and German history at the time of Mussolini and Hitler, together with the disturbing captions, encourage on the mechanisms of the cultural and ideological manipulation carried out by the ruling power. Fabio Mauri, born in Rome in 1926, started focusing and working on painting in the ‘50s. In the ‘60s, he began to turn his paintings into small cinema-like screens, where the word “end” (meaning the end of painting) was frequently used. Author of performances and installations, in the 1970s the artist also experimented with the printing of photographs on canvas.
